Lake Manyara National Park
Land of Tree-Climbing Lions
Lake Manyara National Park, located in the Great Rift Valley, offers stunning views from the escarpment wall. Covering an area of 648.7 km², the park is named after Euphorbia tirucalli, known as Emanyara in Maasai. It is particularly famous for its tree-climbing lions and underground water forest, home to diverse wildlife, especially primates.
Visitors can explore rare hot springs that reach temperatures of up to 70 degrees Celsius — ideal for boiling an egg! Birdwatchers will find it a paradise, as the park hosts over 550 species, including over two million flamingos at certain times of the year. A canopy walk offers a bird's-eye view of the lush vegetation, which large elephants, baboons, blue monkeys, and thousands of pink flamingos inhabit.
In addition to its iconic lions, the park features attractions such as Marang's forest, hot springs, and a wide variety of birdlife. Lake Manyara is also home to herds of buffalo, cheetahs, giraffes, and impalas. With 11 distinct ecosystems and breathtaking landscapes, the park provides a unique and remarkable safari experience.
